Characteristics of pyridine adsorption on Au(111) and Au(210) by EIS parameters fitting procedure

چکیده
Some aspects of the application of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to studies of solid electrode / solution interface, in the absence of faradaic processes, are analysed. In order to perform this analysis, gold electrodes with (111) and (210) crystallographic orientations in an aqueous solution containing 10 mmol dm KF, as supporting electrolyte, and a pyridine concentration varying from 0.01 to 4.6 mmol dm, were used. The experimental data was analysed by using EQUIVCRT software, which utilises non-linear least squares routines, attributing to the solid electrode / solution interface behaviour described by an equivalent circuit with a resistance in series with a constant phase element. The results of this fitting procedure were analysed by the dependence on the electrode potential on two parameters: the pre-exponential factor, Y 0 , and the exponent n f , related with the phase angle shift. By this analysis it was possible to observe that the pyridine adsorption is strongly affected by the crystallographic orientation of the electrode surface and that the extent of deviation from ideal capacitive behaviour is mainly of interfacial origin.

Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectra of Pyridine and Pyrazine Adsorbed on a Au(210) Single-Crystal Electrode
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of pyrazine and pyridine adsorbed on an “unroughened” Au(210) electrode surface have been obtained for the first time. The SERS spectra indicate that both pyridine and pyrazine adsorb on the Au(210) electrode via their nitrogen lone pairs (end-on configuration). The integrated SERS intensities from the ring-breathing vibrations (ca. 1010 cm-1 for...
متن کاملAdsorption characteristics of Er3N@C80on W(110) and Au(111) studied via scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy
We performed a study on the fundamental adsorption characteristics of Er3N@C80 deposited on W(110) and Au(111) via room temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. Adsorbed on W(110), a comparatively strong bond to the endohedral fullerenes inhibited the formation of ordered monolayer islands. In contrast, the Au(111)-surface provides a sufficiently high mobility for the molecul...
متن کاملInvestigation of adsorption behavior of mercury on Au(111) from first principles.
The structural and electronic properties of Hg, SO(2), HgS, and HgO adsorption on Au(111) surfaces have been determined using density functional theory with the generalized gradient approximation. The adsorption strength of Hg on Au(111) increases by a factor of 1.3 (from -9.7 to -12.6 kcal/mol) when the number of surface vacancies increases from 0 to 3; however, the adsorption energy decreases...
متن کاملAdsorption of H2S molecule on TiO2/Au nanocomposites: A density functional theory study
The adsorption of hydrogen sulfide molecule on undoped and N-doped TiO2/Au nanocomposites was investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results showed that the adsorption energies of H2S on the nanocomposites follow the order of 2N doped (Ti site)>N-doped (Ti site)>Undoped (Ti site). The structural properties including bond lengths, angles<span id="...
متن کامل4 ' - dithiodipyridine on Au ( 111 ) : a Combined STM , STS , and DFT Study
We studied the adsorption of 4,4'-dithiodipyridine (PySSPy) on Au(111) under ultra-high vacuum conditions and at low-temperature both experimentally by means of scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS), and theoretically by density functional theory (DFT). We find PySSPy molecules – characterized by their elongated appearance in STM – assembled in islands which reside exclus...
